KW Jr. Whales
Ready to take your young swimmer to the next level? The KW Jr. Whales program is the perfect next step after KW Swim School lessons. Designed as a fun and supportive bridge to the KW Swim Team, KW Jr. Whales helps kids strengthen their technique, build confidence, and fall in love with swimming even more. With consistent coaching and a clear, structured curriculum, your child will stay motivated, improve their skills, and feel fully prepared to dive into the KW Swim Team Bronze group when the time comes. When & Where Are Practices?
- Practice takes place at the Fox Chapel Area High School pool.
- You can view the specific practice times and days during registration. Swimmers are encouraged to attend practice regularly.
- We offer three registration sessions for the Jr. Whales group: Fall | Winter | Spring
- Participants may sign up for one or multiple sessions based on the season.
Meet Requirements
- KW Jr. Whales are preparing to join the KW Swim Team; therefore, this group does not officially participate in USA Swimming meets.

Skill Acquisition & What to Expect
- Focused technique development across all four strokes
- Introduction to team expectations and training structure
- Weekly communication from the coaching staff
- End-of-session feedback and evaluation to determine readiness to join the KW Swim Team, Bronze group. (We recommend at least two full sessions of Jr. Whales before taking a skills test to try to move up into the KW Swim Team, Bronze group.)
Skill Requirements to Graduate to the KW Swim Team
- Rotary breathing for 50 yards under 1:10
- Streamline 5 yards underwater from a dive off the side of the pool
- Legal 25 yards backstroke under :45
- Ability to do a front somersault in the water
- Flutter kick 50 yards under 1:20

- Fins Arena Jr Fin
- Goggles
- KW Jr. Whales Swim Cap

Registration & Fees
- The cost per session is listed during registration.
- We fill classes on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited.
- We accept payment with debit cards (VISA or Mastercard only) and all major credit cards.
- We do not prorate or refund registration fees for missed lessons.
