USA Swimming Motivational Times (Qualifying Times)
- Have you noticed that some meets have "Qualifying Times" or that there are letters (“B”, “BB”, “A”, “AA”, “AAA” or “AAAA”) next to your swimmer's times? Every four years, USA Swimming establishes time standards for swimmers of every age group that range from B to AAAA to give swimmers benchmarks for goal-setting and track improvement. These time standards are intended to motivate swimmers in each age group to work their way from a B standard to a BB standard and to an A standard, an AA standard, an AAA standard, and finally to an AAAA standard. Additionally, some meets require swimmers to have certain Qualifying Times to attend the meet -- based on published USA Swimming Motivational Times.

- View the 2024-2028 motivational time standards by a single age.
- Notice that the time standards are broken into the following:
- “Long Course Meter” (LCM) pools (i.e., the 50 meter pools used during the summer “club” season);
- “Short Course Yard” (SCY) pools (i.e., the 25 yard pools used during the winter “club” season); and
- “Short Course Meter” (SCM) pools (i.e., the 25 meter pools generally used during the summer league season).
USA Swimming Time Search
- Any swimmer who competes in USA Swimming approved swim meets will have times recorded in the USA Swimming database.
- Use the USA Swimming Time Search website tool to search a database of EVERY meet registered time you have at a USA Swimming meet.
- In this database, every event a swimmer swims (without disqualifying) will be listed, along with the date, the relevant meet name, and a designation evaluating the speed of the swim relative to the speed of other swimmers nationwide in the age category. At first, most swimmers’ times are listed as “all times.” Later, as the swimmer becomes faster relative to their age‐peers, the time will be listed as a “B”, “BB”, “A”, “AA”, “AAA” or “AAAA” time (in order of increasing speed compared to peers).
- Parents can also download and print a chart provided by USA Swimming which shows all of the times for the letter designations for each age group. Please note that these charts are pool‐length specific.
- NOTE: Meet times will appear a few weeks after a meet has occurred.
USA Swimming IMX
- IM Xtreme is a program that allows USA Swimming members to track their times (or coaches to track their team's times) against swimmers all across the nation. Just by swimming a specific program of events, you can see where you rank against your teammates, your region, and the USA.
